Michael Jackson’s kids may soon be switching schools, so to speak, and gaining some new classmates.
Back-to-school shopping, picking an outfit for the first day of school and greeting friends after a long summer apart are childhood joys that the King of Pop’s kids have never known. Now, under the care of MJ’s mom, that will change this school year.
London’s Daily Mail reports that the pop icon’s children will be enrolled in private school this coming fall. Up until now, the kids have been homeschooled, but Michael’s mother Katherine Jackson said Sunday that this is the first step in giving the kids a more normal upbringing.
“I’d say I’m a little less strict but I’ve tried to follow the way Michael was raising them,” Katherine said Sunday. “But they don’t have friends. They don’t go to school. They have private lessons at home. They’ll be going to a private school in September for the first time.”
This news comes jut days before the first anniversary of Michael’s sudden, tragic death on June 25, 2009. In the year since his passing, Katherine said that lots of family time has helped the Prince Michael, Paris and Blanket cope with the loss.
Katherine told the Daily Mail that members of the extended family drop by the family home in Los Angeles nearly every day.
“Having them around has helped the children immensely,” she said. “They go places together and have fun. They listen to Michael’s music."
