Drake debut takes #1 spot

As expected, Drake’s debut album Thank Me Later has hit #1, leaving his competitors in the dust.

According to Hits Daily Double, Thank Me Later sold 462,989 copies within the first week of its release.  Those numbers put him less than 40,000 units shy of gold status according to RIAA.

The Canadian rapper seemed truly grateful for all the album love, stating on twitter, “Thank you for the support…thank you for the memories…thank me later.”

Thank Me Later outsold the runner up, Mojo by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, by more than 350,000 units. It’s expected that the Drake’s album will debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 next week.
