Gospel great Walter Hawkins has gone onto glory at the age of 61.
Walter, a Grammy-winning gospel artist, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on July 11. He was at his home in Ripon, California, when he passed away.
Up until the time of his death, he was the dutiful pastor of Oakland’s Love Center Church, and he used his music as part of his ministry. In fact, he had been planning a Love Alive concert CD for fall release at the time of his death.
Walter rose to fame in 1972 with his first LP Do Your Best, which was recorded while he was studying divinity at the University of California at Berkely. He is survived by his siblings, his two kids and their families.
