True to his word, the visual for “Power” wasn’t just a video, it was a portrait.
Artist Marco Brambilla put a rather literal spin on the lyrics when he directed “Power,” which is best described as a moving portrait that illustrates a fall from grace or power. The clip, covering only the first verse and chorus, is entirely in slow motion and it begins with a tight close up of Kanye and his glowing eyes.
As the shot pulls out, you see that Kanye, who has a halo, is simply the focal point of the portrait. He’s surrounded by various scenes, including two warriors who seem to be locked in battle with each other. However, the end of the short video reveals otherwise.
