Couple: Brandy & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Dance: Viennese waltz
If we learned anything from Brandy’s practice footage, it’s that she takes this competition very seriously. Being paired up with Maksim, aka The Bad Boy of Ballroom, it was a match made in "DWTS" heaven!
"I think Brandy is really hard on herself," he said. "It tells me she’s very serious about this competition and that’s exactly the kind of partner that I need."
Brandy always strives for perfection and admits that she needs "to be pushed." Maks’ a demanding coach, notorious for wringing the best results out of his partners. However, we see that with the R&B singer, he’s got to take a slightly softer approach. When it came time for their big debut, Brandy and Maks showed that all that determination paid off.
Her movements were exquisite, if a little too strong at times for the Viennesse waltz. But one thing is certain: Brandy nailed that routine!
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba agreed with us that although it was "very beautiful," Brandy hit a couple points too hard. But, there are worse criticisms because it’s always easier to scale back or refine your moves.
Judge Len Goodman, who obviously had his happy pills yesterday, told Brandy that she made a great first impression. "That was fabulous," he congratulated.
So near as we can tell, Judge Bruno Tonioli liked what he saw in Brandy, especially the attitude and flair that the singer added to the usually romantic dance.
Overall, Brandy and Maks won 23 points from the judges–not bad for the first night of the competition!
