LL Cool J may soon join the ranks of hip-hop legends like Run DMC since he’s been nominated to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
LL and The Beastie Boys are being considered for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011, AllHipHop.com reports. The hip hop artists were nominated for the coveted recognition along with 14 other acts.
“We believe our nominating committee has put forth a list of artists that truly represent the wide variety of music that defines rock and roll,” Rock and Roll Hall of Fame president Joel Peresman said in a statement.
This is the second nomination for LL, who has sold over 20 million albums worldwide and is known for popular hits like “Around the Way Girl” and “Mama Said Knock You Out .” But before all of that, his first single “I Need a Beat” came out in 1984.
License to Ill was The Beastie Boys’ first album. They have since put out seven more, for a total of over 30 million albums sold worldwide.
To be eligible for induction into the Hall, artists must have released their first album or single before 1986. It’s now up to the selected 500 music industry pros to vote and decide who gets inducted.
