More than a year after his death, Wayman Tisdale’s final gift to the world has been released.

The Fonk Record, featuring Wayman’s alter ego, Tiz, is a testament to the musician’s passion for funk music.  The posthumous release drops today, and it’s the album funk fans have been waiting 12 years to hear.

“He always wanted to make funk music. People are going to see a whole ’nother side of Wayman on this album,” said the album’s producer Derek “DOA” Allen. “He was on mission to play as hard and funky as he could.”

To make The Fonk Record, the best that it could possibly be, Wayman and DOA enlisted the help of George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Robert Wilson and The Gap Band. The album also features George Duke and Tiz’s band The Fonkie Planetarians.

Wayman would have loved this album, but tragically, he passed away in May 2009 while he was out on tour to promote his last album, Rebound.
