Lil Wayne walks free

After eight months behind bars Lil Wayne has been set free right on time.

The Associated Press reports that Weezy was released from New York’s Riker’s Island today. According to his handlers, the rapper is flying right to his Miami home, where his camp will host a welcome-back party on Sunday.

Fans hit up Wayne’s page on Facebook to proclaim, “Welcome home, Weezy!” That was about as close as they could get to coming out to support the Louisiana rapper because he was set free from an undisclosed location on Riker’s Island.

Artists from Weezy’s Young Money label also hit up Twitter to express their excitement that the rapper was finally free. “Wayne’s home! #WelcomeHomeWeezy,” Nicki Minaj tweeted this morning.

“WEEZY IS COMING HOME,” Drake wrote on Twitter. “I just want to thank you all for keeping YM alive for the last 8 months.”

Wayne, who reported for lockup in March, was supposed to have served a full year behind bars. But, after multiple sentence delays, he was released early for good behavior.
Now that Wayne’s out, he can continue promoting his latest album, I Am Not A Human Being, which dropped back in September. The album hit #1 on the Billboard 200 chart last month.
