Quincy Jones doesn’t want anyone to misunderstand his recent remarks about Kanye West.
During a recent interview with Us Magazine, the legendary producer brushed off comparisons made between him and Kanye.
“He’s just a rapper,” Quincy said. “There’s no comparison. I’m not putting him down or making a [judgment] or anything, but we come from two different sides of the planet.”
Many took those words as a thinly veiled insult to Kanye, who is dropping My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy later this week. Now, Quincy is insisting that he didn’t mean anything bad by his statement
“I’d appreciate it if people didn’t take my comments about Kanye or anyone else for that matter out of context to contrive a story,” Quincy said in a statement released today. “I have nothing but respect for my little brother Kanye and what he has achieved in his young career.”
And the producer made an effort to reword his previous statements, claiming that he could see how some might Kanye to him. However, Quincy still wanted to establish the point of what he was trying to say.
“It’s not unreasonable to put a comparison of Kanye at this time in his career and myself into the proper perspective,” Quincy said. “This is not dissing Kanye, this is simply trying to express that I’m not a rapper!”
For his part, Kanye has been fairly quiet on the matter. The rapper hasn’t released a statement, or tweet, about Quincy’s quote just yet.
