Gilbert Arenas is heading to Orlando now that the Washington Wizards sent him packing.
ESPN.com reports that Wizards traded Gilbert to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Rashard Lewis on Saturday. He’s the biggest of several names the Magic is acquiring through their player swap, which also has Hedo Turkoglu returning to Orlando’s roster.
All things considered, Magic President Otis Smith feels as though his team has come out ahead.
"We needed a little bit more punch," he told ESPN. "All those guys coming in have an ability to move the ball. After looking at our team through 25 games, we were missing a little something. I thought change was needed."
Gilbert told the Orlando Sentinel that he found out about the trade as he was working out before last night’s Wizards game. He sounded just as excited about the trade as Otis.
"I’m just glad to be back in the playoff hunt," Arenas said. "I’ve been out of it for a while and just glad to be back in competitive basketball with a group of guys who now hope to win, so it’s just great."
