Dondria: From YouTube sensation to So So Def Artist

Find out more about Dondria, a YouTube sensation turned bona fide recording artist, in the February 2011 issue and get a peek here!

You may remember Dondria from her series of YouTube videos, where she sang hits like Rihanna’s “Unfaithful” and Alicia Keys’s “Diary.” Now, after opening for Trey Songz and Monica during their U.S. concert tour, and armed with her debut album, she’s ready to take the R&B world by storm. “I never in a million years would’ve guessed that this would’ve come from that, “Dondria said about her unique rise to fame.

Just like Justin Bieber, Dondria was discovered on YouTube. In 2007, So So Def CEO Jermaine Dupri spotted Dondria when she posted a YouTube video of herself singing Ciara’s “Promise.” The video received more than a million views.

Her new album Dondria vs. Phatfffat was released over the summer. Dondria vs. Phatfffat features classic R&B melodies that complement the singer’s voice, which J.D. compares to the likes of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys.
