Teena Marie’s family and friends will gather today to say goodbye to the Ivory Queen of Soul.
Teena’s camp told S2S that a private memorial service for the “Square Biz” singer, who died December 26, will be held today at 1p.m. PST at Forest Lawn Memorial Parks.
The singer’s body was cremated after undergoing an autopsy. Teena died unexpectedly after suffering a seizure, but investigators have yet to determine the cause of her death.
BV Buzz reports that Smokey Robinson, Shanice and Stevie Wonder are all scheduled to perform at the service. Comedian Kym Whitley, Shirley Murdock and New Edition are expected to come out and pay their respects.
There’s no word on whether anyone from Cash Money Records will attend the service today. Teena had recently signed with the label again and planned to release another album with them this year. Her 2004 album, La Dona, was released on the hip-hop label headed by Birdman.
