The director of an upcoming documentary about A Tribe Called Quest thinks he knows why Q-Tip yanked his support from the film.
Amid prep for the premiere of Beats, Rhymes and Life, actor-director Michael Rapaport revealed that he thinks the rapper is just apprehensive about the release because he’s worried that the film may cast an unfavorable light on the rap group.
“I can’t really speak for him, but I think he got a little nervous,” Michael told MTV. “He’s very protective of the legacy of A Tribe Called Quest and the movie is a very honest depiction of my time with them and the information that I was given in interviews and content.”
While ATCQ did provide materials for Beats, Rhymes and Life, Q-Tip has been very vocal about his opposition to the documentary, which he claims was completed without ATCQ’s approval.
