Chris Brown can’t stay away from Rihanna any longer — or at least it’s becoming more difficult. He’s asked that the restraining order requiring the two to be at least 10 yards apart at awards shows be lifted.
Both Chris and Rihanna are nominated for Grammy Awards this year. To avoid violating the order in the past, the two have not attended the same awards shows.
If both attended the Grammys, organizers would likely have to go through extraordinary measures to make sure the two stayed in accordance with the legal order.
The judge did not make a decision at the time of Chris’ request. However, a response from Rihanna’s attorneys will likely weigh in heavily when it comes to the final decision.
The restraining order was put in place in 2009 after Chris was accused of physically assaulting Rihanna, who was his girlfriend at the time. The photos of the battered and bruised singer flooded the media and tarnished Chris’ boy-next-door image. Since that time, Chris has reportedly racked up more than 500 hours of community service.
Despite the incident, Chris has maintained a substantial fan base and he is nominated for three Grammy Awards this year, including Best Contemporary R&B Album.
Rihanna is also nominated for multiple Grammys, including one for Song of the Year for “Love the Way You Lie.”
Chris will be on probation until 2014.
