Vanessa Williams traces her family tree and unearths ancestral roots for the season two premiere of “Who Do You Think You Are?”
Vanessa Williams will trace her family tree and unearth ancestral roots for the season two premiere of NBC’s “Who Do You Think You Are?” airing Friday.
The show, in partnership with Ancestry.com, allows celebrities to dig into their pasts — with nearly unlimited resources — to find out more about themselves.
Vanessa, who broke barriers in 1983 by becoming the first Black Miss America, said: “I would love to find out whether someone else within my ancestral past did the same thing and made a change or was noticed, or did something that changed other people’s lives.”
Vanessa’s story airs this week and begins with a trip to her father’s resting place in Long Island, New York.
She focuses on her father’s maternal side of the family and is able to find out that her great, great grandfather was a landowner, Civil War soldier and free man.
Each week’s hourlong episode focuses on a different star. Celebrities on-slate for season two include Gwyneth Paltrow, Rosie O’Donnell, Steve Bescemi, Kim Cattrall, Lionel Richie and Ashley Judd.
