Whoopi Goldberg can identify with Charlie Sheen’s use of the term "functioning addict."
Charlie Sheen didn’t exactly shock people with his most recent bender, involving alcohol, cocaine and five porn stars. But when he announced earlier this week that he’d be heading back to work on "Two and a Half Men" instead of going straight to rehab, the ladies of "The View" had to discuss it!
Whoopi shocked the audience when she revealed that she could understand his decision because of her own past problems with addiction.
“He is an alcoholic; he is a drug user. He knows he has a lot of people he’s responsible for,” Whoopi said. “Having been a drug addict, I feel I can say this. I was a functioning drug addict; I showed up for work because I knew a lot of people would be out of work and I wouldn’t get a check that."
The always outspoken "View" host said that her rock bottom came during a particularly messy incident decades ago.
"I ended up sitting on a bed for three or four days scared there was something under the bed," Whoopi admitted. “I wet the bed; I pooped the bed. I was so scared. I hit bottom. I did that a long time ago.”
Whoopi said she was eventually rescued from her paranoia by a roommate.
