Kerry Washington heads to TV

Kerry Washington will be starring in the new ABC drama series, “In Crisis.”

Kerry’s character, Olivia Price, is based on the real-life career of Judy Smith, a crisis management counselor.

Kerry, who’s best known for her big-screen roles in movies such as For Colored Girls and I Think I Love My Wife, isn’t a complete stranger to TV. She’s guest-starred on “Law & Order,” “Boston Legal” and other popular shows. However, this will be Kerry’s first time as a lead on a series.

Columbus Short will co-star as a lawyer on Olivia’s “dysfunctional” team. The series is written by Shonda Rhimes, the award-winning writer behind “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice.”

The announcement comes at a time when very few scripted TV dramas are featuring multiple Black cast members. NBC’s "Undercovers," which starred Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw was cancelled after 13 episodes due to low ratings.
