Warner Premiere announced that Michael has been cast as a Major Jackson "Jax" Briggs in "Mortal Kombat," a live-action digital series based on the video game franchise. He’ll star alongside Jeri Ryan and Darren Shahlavi, playing Lt. Sonya Blade and Kano, respectively.

Although a specific premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, it will be available online this spring via Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. Shooting for "Mortal Kombat" is already underway in Vancouver, but there’s no word on a specific plot for the show just yet.

A clip from the fan short Mortal Kombat: Rebirth (posted below), which Michael also starred in, it seems that Warner Bros. is trying to avoid the incredibly hokey route the movie went in 1995. You know, back when studios hadn’t quite perfected the art of adapting video games or comic books into movies fans wouldn’t be embarassed to admit having watched years later.

As we recall some of those films, check out this clip of Michael in Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.
