The 2011 Grammys continued the award show’s tradition of offering a roster of collaborations.
Sunday’s festivities kicked off with a powerhouse tribute to Aretha Franklin, who presenter LL Cool J confirmed is "at home in Detroit right now getting better."
To honor the Queen of Soul (dubbed the Queen of the Grammys last night), Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride and Florence Welch each performed some of Aretha’s biggest hits.
While Christina, thankfully, managed not to flub any of the lines to "Ain’t No Way," we loved J. Hud’s rendition of "Respect."
Don’t take our word for it, though. Aretha herself couldn’t say enough good things about the tribute.
"I LOVED it! The ladies all sounded so wonderful and they looked fabulous!" Aretha raved in a statement. " I enjoyed each and every performance, especially Yolanda doing ‘Spirit In The Dark’ and Christina’s rendition of ‘Ain’t No Way,’ Loved them all! They all looked beautiful, I really liked Jennifer’s outfit, those epaulettes on her shoulder pads were too sharp! Bravo ladies!!!"
Janelle Monaé, B.o.B. and Bruno Mars teamed up later for a retro, but still completely amazing medley of their biggest 2010 singles. We really enjoyed the jazzier take on "Nothin’ On You" and the variety show feel of the whole performance. Check it out!
Rihanna joined Eminem on stage for another performance of their highly controversial collaboration of "Love the Way You Lie," which started off with her remix of the song. Rihanna’s gown for the performance was fierce, but check out who else popped up on stage during their set.
Rihanna came back later for a fiery performance of "What’s My Name" with Drake.
Teeny boppers, grown women and the Smith family all went wild for Jaden Smith, Justin Bieber and Usher when they hit the Grammy stage for their medley.
