Etta James to undergo exam

A judge has granted an order that will allow legendary singer Etta James to undergo an independent medical exam.

The Associated Press reports the ailing siren has been ordered to get an independent checkup after her son, Donto James, complained that she may be in “very serious danger” with her live-in doctor.

Etta is currently being treated for dementia and leukemia among other ailments. Donto’s lawyer said at a hearing last week that Etta had been fitted with feeding tubes, a procedure he feels should have been done at a medical facility, not at home.

Judge Thomas Cahraman then agreed for a court-appointed attorney to set up an independent medical exam to assess Etta’s needs. The singer’s doctor told AP that she backs the judge’s decision because caring for Etta is no easy task.

“He can have 10 examiners; he can have 20 physicians to come in that house to perform the duties I do. I have a list of 23 medical sub-specialties that I have had to treat her for,” the doctor said. “She is not an easy patient. I have saved her several times. Eventually she will die with something, but it will not be with my help.”
