The Queen of Soul is quietly organizing a spectacular bash for her 69th birthday.
According to The National Enquirer, Aretha Franklin is making arrangements for a star-studded shindig in New York on March 25. It will be held at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel. Since she doesn’t like to fly, the diva will travel from Detroit to NYC in a custom bus decked out to her specifications.
Anyone who is anyone will be on the guest list for this affair, as the Queen of Soul wants to celebrate with her truly fabulous contemporaries. When she arrives, Aretha will party with Oprah Winfrey, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Natalie Cole Patti Labelle and Smokey Robinson. Wendy Williams, who snagged the first interview with Aretha after her recent medical procedure, has also been invited to join the festivities, as have Berry Gordy and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Aretha, who was spotted dancing at Chicago Bulls game this week, is supposedly making sure that she does it big for her birthday because she doesn’t know if it will be her last. To achieve her vision for March 25, she’s making sure she signs off on everything down to the smallest detail.
“Aretha’s not saying it, but she knows this could very well be her last birthday celebration, so she’s going all out,” said a source close to Aretha. “She may be recovering from her illness, but she’s still a diva so she’s planning every detail down to the napkins – she’s making sure this party will be one to remember.”
The insider insists that the diva hasn’t given up on life, stating, “Aretha isn’t calling this her swan song, but she wants to be remembered, and what better way to go out than with a huge bash!”
