Nicki Minaj might be sitting alongside L.A. Reid on Simon Cowell’s “X Factor.”
According to the New York Post, Nicki is in talks to be a judge on the Fox talent show, geared toward finding the next big musical act. Reportedly, Nicki met up with Simon a couple of weeks ago in Los Angeles and he thinks she’d be a perfect fit for the show.
“Simon thinks Nicki is fantastic. She’s sassy; she looks great and she has bags of personality,” a source said. “Nicki has a large following and she fits well with the ethos of the show, which plans to usher in a new generation of musical talent. ‘X Factor’ is aiming for a younger audience.”
Nicki’s not being fitted for an executive chair on the judge’s panel just yet. “This isn’t a done deal yet, but Nicki would be great for the show,” the source said. “She fits the ideal that ‘X Factor’ will be exciting, vibrant and different. And the show would also be great for her career.”
Nicki’s camp has kept quiet about the possible deal, as have reps for Simon.
If she does sign on to judge America’s big thing, she would be in good company. Fox has confirmed that L.A. Reid, who just left his position as chairman of Island Def Jam, will be on the judge’s panel. Supposedly Tommy Mottola, Nicole Scherzinger and Cheryl Cole have also been tapped for the show, but none of them have been locked at this time.
But the real reason everyone will be watching “X Factor” is to see what kind of talent comes to the stage this fall. Auditions for the show begin March 27 in L.A. Singers over the age of 12 and musical groups are eligible to compete. With $5 million recording contract at Syco/Sony Music up for grabs, musical acts better bring their A-game.
