Soledad examines Islamic intolerance

Soleded O’Brien is back with another “In America” CNN news special.

This time she’s examining Islamic intolerance in the town of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where the building of a mosque has resulted in protests from many locals who feel the temple threatens their way of life.

“Why are they building at mosque at nearly 53,000 square feet?” asked a resident of the town who opposes the construction.

“We’re worried about our American way of life,” said another.

While the town’s growing Islamic community is excited about the temple, those who oppose it have resorted to leaving hostile phone messages and violating the site, including spray painting the words “not welcome” on a sign on the property.

“It’s my right as a human being. It’s my right as an American citizen to have a place to worship. It’s my right to be able to worship as I please,” said a young Islamic supporter of the project.

The special airs Sunday at 8 p.m. (EST) on CNN. Get a preview below.
