After a years-long business partnership that helped turn her into a household name, Beyoncé has ended her working relationship with her father and now former manager Mathew Knowles.
“I am grateful for everything he has taught me. I grew up watching both he and my mother manage and own their own businesses. They were hardworking entrepreneurs and I will continue to follow in their footsteps,” Beyoncé said in a statement released by publicist Yvette Noel-Schure.
Does that mean Beyoncé will be managing her own business affairs from now on? She hasn’t yet explained her plans for the future, but some are already beginning to speculate that her husband, Jay-Z, might be her new manager under the Roc Nation label.
No matter her professional future, Beyoncé said her personal relationship with her father remains in tact.
“He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly,” she said.
There doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between the daughter and father. Mathew wished nothing but success for Bey.
“Business is business and family is family. I love my daughter and am very proud of who she is and all that she has achieved. I look forward to her continued great success,” he said in a statement.
Whoever fills Mathew’s shoes, has a tough act to follow. As Beyoncé’s manager, he helped her career flourish, including chart-topping albums, award-winning music videos, blockbuster movies and fashion ventures.
Beyoncé is the last member of Destiny’s Child to drop Mathew as manager. Kelly Rowland parted from him in 2009. Michelle Williams ended their professional relationship in 2010.
Beyoncé is currently working on a new album, and Mathew will be turning his label’s focus toward Gospel and inspirational music.
