‘Dancing With the Stars’ recap: April 4

    Couple: Romeo & Chelsie Hightower
    Dance: Rumba
    Score: 20

We weren’t surprised to see that Romeo opted for a romantic, sultry Rumba for his routine. But it wasn’t just an excuse to get closer than usual to Chelsie.

He chose to dance to “I’ll Be There” and dedicated his routine to the memory of his deceased cousins, who he lost at a very young age. Romeo explained that he was very close to his cousins and losing them was devastating.

“Normally the Rumba is a really sexy dance, but Romeo’s story is about love and loss, so those are the emotions that we’re really going to convey through this dance,” Chelsie explained.

Practice this week got off to a rocky start, as Romeo got easily frustrated. While he initially blamed it on his shoes, he eventually copped to the fact the routine was opening up a lot of old emotional wounds for him.

Once he got a handle on his feelings, he came back to the studio as his old self.

Romeo did okay this week. He wasn’t great, he wasn’t terrible, he was just okay. You could really tell on his face that he was focusing on his cousins throughout the routine. He kept his emotional commitment to the routine throughout the dance.
