Will Smith and his son Jaden will once again share the screen, this time in a science-fiction flick.
What a twist! Columbia Pictures has announced that Will and Jaden are set to star in M. Night Shyamalan’s next sci-fi adventure movie.
M. Night has dreamed up a story set 1,000 years in the future, focusing on a kid that has to brave the wilderness of a now-abandoned Earth. He navigates the landscape, risking life and limb, to save himself and his dad after their ship crashes on the planet.
Not much else is known about the project yet–not even its title–but The Sixth Sense director promises that it will have audiences jumping out of their seats. And he can’t wait to get on the set with Will and his son.
“The chance to make a scary, science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project,” M. Night said.
According to E! News, Will will also act as one of the film’s producers. Most movies that Will gets involved with are box-office gold, which is great news for M. Night, whose last two films, The Last Airbender and The Happening, crashed and burned in theaters.
Jaden starred opposite Will in the 2006 biographical drama, The Pursuit of Happyness. Studio President Doug Belgrad is ecstatic about the chance to get the pair back onscreen together to create a little movie magic with the M. Night.
“Night is an outstanding filmmaker who has a tremendous vision for this science-fiction adventure story and we couldn’t be more excited to be working again with Jaden after our experiences on The Pursuit of Happyness and The Karate Kid,” Doug said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to have the two of them together on this project.”
