Mashonda isn’t interested in doing any more reality shows–that is, unless she’s behind the camera calling the shots.
“I would want to produce my own show. [The] only way I could see myself doing another reality show is if it‘s mine, and I could sit in the editing room and piece it together. I don’t want to give my life to somebody to chop up,” she told the DJs over at 105.1 FM in New York.
“I wouldn’t do it again,” she said in reference to actually starring in a reality series.
She wasn’t even that keen on being involved in the current season of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop.” Mona Scott, the show’s producer, had to ask her twice and offer her a smaller role.
“When Mona approached me the second time–‘cause the first time she came to me she wanted me to be a full cast member–I told her I couldn’t do that ‘cause I wasn’t in a good place in my life, and I didn’t want to put that on TV,” she said. “The second time she came to me, she asked me to be Emily’s [Fabolous’ ex girlfriend] friend on the show and just talk to her. I thought that was empowering to me and Emily, as well. I thought it was therapy.”
It seems Mashonda is a woman who likes to be in control of things. For instance, she had some strict guidelines for her recent cover of King magazine.
“They wanted me to show more,” said Mashonda, who admitted that as a mother, she was concerned about appearing in the publication known for its sexy photos of scantily clad female celebrities. However, she finally decided, “If I do it the way I want to do it, pick my own outfits and choose my own poses then I would be comfortable, and that’s what they let me do.”
Mashonda, who selected to wear a one-piece bathing suit for the photo shoot, said the response to the cover has been positive.
“It’s been so much love. I was afraid that women might try to hate, but it’s just been love from women and men,” she said. “People were shocked I did it. I got a lot of phone calls that day.”
Mashonda also talked about her music career and her love life. Plus, find out what question she wouldn’t answer. Watch.
