If you thought Laurieann Gibson was tough on the members of Danity Kane on MTV’s “Making the Band 3,” wait ‘til you see her in action on her new show, “The Dance Scene,” which premiered Sunday, April 10.
The reality series follows her as she coaches young dancers, branches out with her career and struggles to balance a relationship, too.
“There’s a lot of drama. There’s a lot of tears,” she said about the show, which is the brainchild of “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest.
“This series gives audiences an insider’s view of how competitive the dance world is, the talent and ambition that a dancer needs to be successful in the Hollywood scene, and the drama that ensues along the way,” Ryan told Entertainment Weekly.
In the series, Laurieann uses lots of hard work and tough love to bring the best out of her dancers; as fans know from her “Making the Band” days, that’s not always pretty.
“I push my artists really hard,” Laurieann told the DanceOn Network. “I wish my dancers hard. I push myself hard. That’s why my dancers are #1… That’s why I’m # 1.”
Whether it’s confidence or cockiness, Laurieann’s résumé gives her enough clout to have a little of both. She’s worked with such popular singers as Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys just to name a few.
In addition to giving viewers a real-life taste of what professionals dancers go through, the “boom-kack” queen is hoping this reality series will help prove she’s not as eccentric as she sometimes seems.
“In being misunderstood, it’s important to never give up,” she said. “The dancing exposes you to al things Laurieann, and you finally get to see that I’m not crazy.”
