Sugar Ray Leonard was knocked out in the fourth round of “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday night.
Another one bites the dust! Ray is the second S2S fave to be cut from the competition on “DWTS.” Wendy Williams was the odd woman out last week.
Considering his age and claim to fame, Ray usually managed to impress us with his moves. Older contestants tend not to fair so well in their routines. On top of that, fighters have a track record of having to overcome their training—which usually conditions them for sharp and stunted manueavers—to stretch out their limbs for elegant movements.
Somehow, Ray shook off those issues every week to deliver decent dances that were a delight to watch. Our only major issue with the former boxer was that he was usually bringing the boxing ring to ballroom. If he didn’t have to perform a slower dance, you could bet that he’d find some way for his professional partner to work some boxing into their routines.
We wonder if it hadn’t become a crutch for Ray. He looked utterly defeated when he found out that his professional partner, Anna Trebunskaya, wasn’t going to throw a few jabs into their Viennese Waltz Monday night.
It’s a shame to see Ray go, but that’s the nature of “DWTS.” Thankfully, Ray got to stick around long enough to see Jennifer Hudson’s appearance. J.Hud took the stage Tuesday night with two performances, including “Feeling Good” off of her new album I Remember Me. Her voice was amazing, but unlike Chris Brown, she left the dancing to the professionals.
Getting back to Ray, though, he took his elimination like a champ and gave a very gracious exit speech. See what he had to say about his time in the competition when you watch the clip below.
With Ray and Wendy gone, that only leaves two S2S favorites left to compete for the mirrorball: Romeo and Hines Ward. See how they tackle their dances next week when the next round of “Dancing With the Stars” airs Monday night at 8 p.m. on ABC (EST).
