Halle Berry has had to back out on another acting gig so that she can attend to some child custody issues.
It seem that Halle and Gabriel Aubry’s truce over custody of their daughter Nahla was only a temporary agreement. According to the New York Times, Halle has had to give up her starring role in The Mountaintop on Broadway.
This fall she would have played Camae, a maid at the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, who delivers her imagined account of what happened the night before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.
Unfortunately, Halle has had to quit the show, in which she would co-star with Samuel L. Jackson. Producers said in a statement that “Ms. Berry would not be appearing in the role due to child-custody issues”, but no specifics were mentioned.
Sammy is still set to play Dr. King in the show, which debuted in London in 2009.
There’s no word on who producers will get to fill in for Halle at this time. This marks the second time that the actress has had to quit a job because of her custody battle. Last time, she had to back out of her role in New Year’s Eve, which she was later able to reclaim.
Whether or not Halle will hammer out a deal with Gabriel and make it to Broadway for The Mountaintop remains to be seen.
