‘Waiting to Exhale’ sequel set for 2012

Terry McMillan has confirmed that her sequel to Waiting to Exhale, titled Getting to Happy, is headed for the big screen.

Terry announced the good news last week, tweeting, “We are working on the script for HAPPY. Will know in about a month or so when we’ll begin production. Probably on screens in 2012.”

Getting to Happy picks up about 15 years after where Waiting to Exhale left off as Gloria, Savannah, Bernadine and Robin are all facing their own equally dramatic battles. Gloria is facing life as a recently widowed woman; Savannah’s no longer happy in her marriage; Bernie’s on a steady diet of prescription drugs and facing poverty; meanwhile Robin is still waiting to settle down while raising a daughter of her own.

According to EUR.web , both Angela Bassett and Loretta Devine have been confirmed for the film. The big question, though, is whether Whitney Houston will reprise her role as Savannah.

A huge challenge to casting might be filling out the male leads. Gregory Hines, who played Gloria’s love interest in Waiting to Exhale, died in 2003. Meanwhile, Wesley Snipes, who played Bernie’s bar-buddy-turned-pen-pal, James Wheeler, is expected to be in preis until 2013.
