Aretha Franklin seems to have given up on Halle Berry portraying her in an upcoming biopic, and now Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia are on her list of candidates.
“They’re both very good singers and very good actresses,” Aretha told the Associated Press. Possibly, both ladies might end up in the film. “My feeling is that we’ll end up with two Arethas, one younger and one older,” she said.
Jennifer hasn’t had much to say about the role, but Fantasia made it clear—after being left out of an Aretha tribute at this year’s Grammys—that she is a huge fan of the Queen of Soul.
Aretha, who said she wants “a huge, huge, Hollywood name” to direct, has someone in mind, but isn’t divulging that tidbit. “I can’t tell you who it is,” she said.
In the meantime, the multiple Grammy winner is focused on the release of her new album, which is now available for pre-order at Walmart.
“It’s beautifully varied,” she said about Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love. “There’s something for everybody.”
