Opposites attract once again: Paula Abdul has officially joined the judges’ panel for "The X Factor," Simon Cowell’s latest U.K.-inspired singing competition television series.
After months of buzz, Paula began judging alongside her fellow former "American Idol" judge Simon last Sunday at the Los Angeles open auditions. MTV News reported that Paula didn’t sign the contract until moments before taking her seat on the stage.
Does this mean there’s more Simon-Paula banter in our near future? Well, they’re playing nice—for now. In FOX’s official announcement, Simon said, “This show would never have been the same without Paula and I can’t believe I am saying this—I have missed her a lot, and I am thrilled she’s on the show.”
Coming off of her short-lived CBS dance competition series "Live to Dance," Paula hasn’t lost any momentum. “I’m also delighted and grateful to be sitting next to Simon again…but you might want to check back with me in a week or two!” Paula said.
British pop star Cheryl Cole and former Island Def Jam executive L.A. Reid round out the panel, and if Paula wasn’t enough, Simon is bringing Nicole Scherzinger along for the ride.
Since Nicole’s appearance as a guest judge on the U.K. version of "The X Factor" last year, the rumor mill has pegged her as a judge in the American series. But for the show’s U.S. debut this fall, FOX announced that the former Pussycat Doll will co-host with Steve Jones, a British television personality.
