Oprah regrets launching OWN so soon

If she had the chance to do it all again, Oprah Winfrey would have waited to launch OWN.

The chat host recently told Entertainment Weekly that, in hindsight, she should have waited until after wrapping "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to debut her self-titled network.

“I’ve thought maybe it would have been better to wait until ["Oprah"] completely ended and then literally use it as a launch pad," Oprah said. "But I don’t spend a lot of time in the regret mode.”

Had she waited, O thinks she’d have had more time to devote to the fledging network in its crucial formative months. OWN launched on January 1 this year, but with the final season of "Oprah" on her plate, O’s schedule is packed and that sometimes means that OWN gets put on the back burner.

“I feel like I have not begun to give anything to OWN. I was on the phone yesterday with the head of OWN probably for 20 minutes, and then I was on another phone call for an hour," Oprah revealed. "So I probably gave OWN and hour and 20 minutes yesterday. Not enough. Not enough. And I hadn’t talked to anybody for two or three days there."

Let’s not forget that Oprah’s also a publisher! Although, O magazine is "its own machine now. I don’t have to a lot with that anymore." What’s this? The working woman’s super hero is struggling to keep up with her own ambitions? Unthinkable! For O this is nothing more than a hiccup in her timing.

“Doing this right and ending ["Oprah"] is a full-time job," Oprah said. "I still have to check in, approve things. I wouldn’t even say 10 percent of my time is on OWN right now. But it will be."

Once Oprah clears "Oprah" from her daily to-do list, the media maven expects that things at OWN will get better. "I can start to give [the] attention to OWN that it deserves," she explained. "It’s going to improve exponentially with the amount of time and service I can give to it.”
