Child Protective Services nearly ended up at Mariah Carey’s bedside because of a misunderstanding and paparazzi, according to Nick Cannon.
"Child Protective Services actually came to me while I was in the hallway and said that they were here to see me because there had been allegations that there was drug and alcohol use during the stay in the hospital," Nick told Piers Morgan last week.
Agents were apparently contacted after a joke was taken too seriously.
“A nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink Guinness, the dark beer, the yeast improves breastfeeding," said Nick, who thinks maybe that statement was repeated to CPS agents out of context.
“I don’t know if someone heard that, but then they were saying my wife was drinking beer. People will do anything to try to conjure up a story."
Nick also entertained the idea that the media had something to do with the “investigation” in an attempt to get photos of the twins.
“It’s really sad when you think about people trying to make a buck off newborn babies,” he said.
That drama is all behind Nick and Mariah, who was released from the hospital Saturday, and they’re focused on getting their children acclimated to their home.
“It’s the first day to have my children at home. So I have been loving that,” Mariah told an L.A. radio station Saturday.
While she’s home, Nick is out bringing home the bacon, as usual. However, the actor and singer said things are different now.
“I left … to do promotion earlier in the week—that was tough, but I’m dealing with it,” the new father said.
