Oprah Winfrey goes big for series finale

Oprah Winfrey is going out with a bang as she tapes the last episodes of "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

Get out the Kleenex! Thousands upon thousands of eager Oprah fans have packed into Chicago’s United Center today where the chat host will stun them with a star-sutdded roster of guests.

"Oprah" producers told the New York Post the lineup for the media maven’s "Suprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular" will not disappoint because nearly everyone invited can’t wait to sit down with O. According to "Oprah" executive producer Sheri Salata, the RSVPs have been "a resounding ‘yes.’"

"Celebrities from film, television and music feel a deep appreciation for the support they have received from Oprah and the show over the years," Sherri said. "Oprah will be very touched by that gratitude."

Harpo Productions released free tickets for today’s taping through a lottery, and the studio was flooded with more than 154,000 requests. Alas only a chosen few were given passes for the event at the Center, which holds about 20,000 people.

"Oprah is in great spirits, energized and taking in every last bit of these final days," Sherri said. "The producers are a little teary-eyed—it’s hard to say goodbye."

The home audience won’t see the shows taped today until May 23 and 24.

As big a secret as the guest list for today’s taping has been, no one who knows what will happen in the finale episode is spilling about the series ender, which airs May 25.
