Did R.Kelly impregnate Aaliyah?

A new book by a former member of R.Kelly’s entourage suggests that the R&B crooner may have impregnated a 15-year-old Aaliyah.

Demetrius Smith Sr., who takes credit for “grooming” R.Kelly, writes about the conversation he had with the Pied Piper when he first learned of Aaliyah’s alleged pregnancy.

“’I think she’s pregnant,’ he said, in a voice that sounded as if he wanted to burst into tears. ‘Oh, man, Rob,’ was all I could say at the time … How you gone marry Aaliyah, Rob?’ I asked in bitter sadness. I wanted to relinquish his idea on how that was going to happen,” Demetrius wrote.

The leaked excerpt from the book, titled The Man Behind the Man: Looking From the Inside Out, doesn’t explain what happened to the alleged child. Obviously Aaliyah, whose six-pack could compete with the most toned of celebrities, was never spotted with a baby bump.

Since Aaliyah was only 15 at the time of the alleged pregnancy, R.Kelly would have been about 27, making their sexual encounter–assuming it wasn’t a case of artificial insemination–illegal in most states.

It’s no secret that R.Kelly has been accused of having a preference for young girls. In 2008, the Chicago native was found not guilty of producing child pornography.

Although Demetrius and R.Kelly were once supposedly good friends, Demetrius admits there’s been some love lost.

“I spent half of my 20s and most of my 30s grooming one of my former best friends, Robert Kelly, for stardom, only to be left homeless myself in the end. So yes, resentment is still present,” he writes.

Demetrius’ book is due to hit shelves this summer. R.Kelly’s tell-all book, Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me, hasn’t been released yet, but is available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
