Michelle Obama explains Common invite

Michelle Obama doesn’t feel a bit bad about inviting Common to the White House for a poetry slam earlier this month.

While speaking at Oxford University, Michelle Obama addressed Common’s invitation to a White House poetry event earlier this month.

According to MTV’s RapFix, Sarah Palin and Fox News have criticized the Obamas for inviting a man, who they say has “glorified cop killing." But during a speech to a group of Oxford University students, Michelle explained their decision.

“We had a poetry session and we invited young kids in just last week from all over the country," said the first lady. "They talked to some of the most outstanding poets, and they read their poetry in the state room. And then we had a poetry night and Common was there. He’s very cute."

Michelle added, "But everybody from poet laureates to hip-hop folks, being able to mix up the world in that very interesting way, the White House allows you to do that.”
