JaRule begins prison term
JaRule is set to begin his 18-month prison sentence today after pleading guilty to a 2007 gun charge.
MTV News reports that the rapper is expected to turn himself today, when he’ll be sent to lockup in Upstate New York.
This sentence stems from his July 2007 arrest in New York City, following the discovery of a loaded semi-automatic handgun with the serial number scratched off hidden in his Maybach.
Back in December, Ja pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession. In March he also pleaded guilty to charges that he hadn’t paid more than $3 million in New Jersey taxes. He faces up to three years in prison for that.
Chris Brown to perform at BET Awards
June 26 is shaping up to be Chris Brown’s night. It’s just been announced that the crooner will be taking the stage to perform during the 2011 BET Awards in Los Angeles.
Last year, he stole the show with a tearful performance of Michel Jackson’s "Man in the Mirror," and viewers can’t wait to see how he’ll top that.
We reported last month that Chris tops the list of nominees for the BET Awards as he’s received nods in six different categories, including Viewer’s Choice and Video of the Year.
Alicia Keys and Jill Scott are also expected to perform at the BET Awards, hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, airing June 26 at 8 p.m. on BET networks.
Janelle Monáe preps new album
Janelle Monáe is ready to take her music to the next level. Janelle told MTV Hive that, despite the success of her 2010 debut, The ArchAndroid, she’s already working on her next project.
Fans should come to expect even more from Janelle on her sophomore album, which she is already “recording, writing, [and] playing instruments” for.
“This album will have very strong concepts and bigger ideas and the music will just go forward to another level,” Janelle said. “It will still be, I believe, relatable to the people. We have really big ideas, I must say, and we’re just trying to make sure we execute them properly.”
Khloé Kardashian apologizes for wardrobe malfunction
Khloé Kardashian gave "Fox & Friends" viewers an eyeful yesterday while making the rounds to promote the upcoming season of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." The reality TV star was wearing a top with sheer fabric at the time and she feels a little bad about her moment of over-exposure.
"My stylist Monica Rose DID tell me to wear a bra with that sheer top but being the naughty girl that I am I disobeyed and went bra-less," Khloé explained on her blog. “On a more serious note though, to those who I offended, I am very sorry. It truly was an accident.”
She added, however, “I would be lying if I said I thought this was a big deal … I am not embarrassed about what happened … We ALL have nipples!”
Tisha Campbell-Martin offers TMI
Despite warnings from her husband, actor Dwayne Martin, Tisha Campbell-Martin held nothing back during her recent interview with the ladies of “The Talk.”
Not long after she graced the stage, Tisha was asked about the craziest place she and her hubby decided to get intimate.
“It was in a bathroom in the club. … It was like last year,” she said. “It just kind of happened.”
Realizing maybe she’d shared too much, Tisha acknowledged that her hubby wasn’t going to like telling all their business.
Tisha, whose show “The Protector” premieres on Lifetime TV on Sunday, also talks about her autistic son.

Laurence Fishburne exiting ‘CSI’
Actor Laurence Fishburne returned to TV less than two years ago for a role on CBS’s “CSI,” but the Oscar nominee is hearing the call of the big screen.
Laurence starred as Dr. Raymond Langston on the long-running drama series, but sources say he’s going to focus on feature films now.
The show’s producers don’t seem shocked by Laurence’s decision.
“Nobody expected him to be on the show for 7 years. It’s Laurence Fishburne,” an insider told Deadline.com.
Flavor Flav gets a new clock
Hype man, reality star and author Flavor Flav visited “Conan” Tuesday to promote his new book, titled Flav Flav: The Icon the Memoir.
Dressed in a bright red suit and gold crown, Flav presented host Conan O’Brien with a brand new golden grill.
“I’m like a hillbilly rapper,” Conan joked.
In return, Conan presented Flav with a large coo-coo clock, complete with large gold chain, to wear around his neck.
“It goes with the suit,” Flav said.
Flav also explains how he first ended up wearing his signature clocks and discusses his idea for a Mackula movie. “He’s a pimped out vampire,” Flav said.
In the memoir, which is now available at Amazon.com, Flav is candid about his days of drug abuse and the money he spent supporting his habit.
"Yeah, I was spending $2,600 a day, for six years, every single day. I don’t know how much that is but if you did the math, wow, I went through a lot of money. If I did the math I’d probably be shocked on how much money I spent, I’d probably punch myself in the face," he told PopEater.com.
Tiger to miss out on U.S. Open
An injury will keep Tiger Woods from competing in this year’s U.S. Open.
“I am extremely disappointed that I won’t be playing in the U.S. Open,” Tiger said in a statement. “It’s time for me to listen to my doctors and focus on the future. I was hoping that I could play, but if I did, I risk further damage to my left leg.”
Tiger reportedly has two mild sprains: one to his medial collateral ligament and one to his Achilles’ tendon, according to the New York Times.
Some wonder whether Tiger’s lack of participation in recent tournaments marks the beginning of the end of Tiger’s career. In addition to some very public personal matters that have tarnished his image, the 35-year-old has been having minor health complications.
“It’s been a frustrating and difficult year, but I’m committed to my long-term health,” Tiger said before thanking his fans for their support.
