We’ve heard the cliché that motherhood is the hardest job in the world, and now that she’s got two kids of her own, Mariah Carey asserts that the saying is true.
“It’s hard to have kids in this world. I have so much respect for mothers everywhere, especially those who’ve had difficult pregnancies or given birth to multiples,” Mariah told OK magazine.
Being in the public spotlight adds its own challenges to the full-time job, but Mariah is ready to take that on.
“I feel like, in a lot of ways, children come into the world to teach us. It’s going to be a delicate balance between raising them around glitz and glamour and keeping them grounded,” she acknowledged.
Although many celebrity moms hire nannies to help shoulder some of the responsibility of childrearing, Mariah wants to be more hands-on.
“I couldn’t just be like: ‘I’m having a child, yay. Let me get a nanny, so I can give her the baby—take the kid.’ That doesn’t work for me. I don’t believe in that,” said Mariah, who has a built-in “Manny” in husband Nick Cannon.
“He already has this natural talent with the children. They take to him right away. He’s so nurturing, loving and fun. He definitely will be a hands-on dad,” she said.
Although Nick’s reported that Mariah worked on an album while carrying twins Monroe and Moroccan, she said family time is priority now.
“I am looking forward to spending quality time with the babies and Nick, and that’s our plan,” she said.
