‘Basketball Wives: L.A.’ gets debut date

Gloria Govan will be heading up a new team of basketball wives starting in August.

VH1 has announced that "Basketball Wives: L.A." will make its big debut on August 29 at 8 p.m. (EST). According to the network, it will offer all the volatile drama and catfights that the Miami team has become so known for.

As with the original "Basketball Wives", the L.A. edition will follow the lives of several women in relationships with NBA players. VH1 will take viewers along for the ride as the ladies enjoy all the ups and downs of the glamorous life, including infidelity. Cast members will also be seen trying to balance family with their own professional ambitions.

That’s what VH1 says now, but we’re willing to bet that cameras will catch a lot of gossip and she said/she said.

Unlike the Miami crew, however, most of the ladies on "Basketball Wives: L.A." are still romantically involved with their ballers.

The West Coast cast will include Gloria Govan and her sister Laura Govan, who has a sordid history with franchise creator Shaunie O’Neal. Ron Artest’s wife, Kimsha, and Imani Showalter, who is engaged to Stephen Jackson of the Charlotte Bobcats, will also be on the show. Jackie Christie, wife of Doug Christie, will round out the cast for "Basketball Wives: L.A." and early buzz from the set has pegged her as the captain of the team.
