Mike Tyson and wife, Lakiha Spicer, shocked family and friends over the weekend by renewing their vows at the M resort in Las Vegas.
Mike and Lakiha’s loved ones thought they were attending the couple’s joint birthday party but were in for a surprise. “My wife & I are getting ready to host friends and family tonight. Many we haven’t seen in years,” Mike tweeted before the big night. “It’s going to be a great night.”
The great night turned out to be a vow renewal ceremony. According to the New York Daily News once guests arrived the couple vanished behind a curtain that eventually dropped to show the 44-year-old heavyweight champ and his wife in wedding attire.
Then in a traditional Muslim ceremony, the couple reaffirmed their vows. Next, the guests continued the celebration by partying in the hotel’s ballroom with a live band, TMZ.com reports.
Mike and Lakiha reportedly did a second “I do” because their first wedding in June 2009 was small and intimate. The wedding happened two weeks after Mike had unfortunately lost his 4-year-old daughter, the Daily News reported.
The couple has a daughter Milan, 2, and 6-month-old son Morocco Elijah. The boxer also has five other children from previous relationships.
Mike, who once was married to Monica Turner (divorced in 2002) and Robin Givens (split after one year in 1989), expressed his love for his bride on “The View” last year.
“I have an awesome life. I have an awesome wife who cares about me,” he said. “I’m very grateful. I don’t deserve to have the wife that I have; I don’t deserve the kids that I have, but I do, and I’m very grateful.”
The former boxer has known Lakiha for 17 years.
