Laura Govan is ready to put the next chapter of her life on camera as part of "Basketball Wives: LA."
Laura’s life over the last couple of years has been more than dramatic enough for reality TV. She’s been romantically linked to Shaquille O’Neal, who was then married to "Basketball Wives" creator Shaunie O’Neal. Laura’s gone through a messy, public breakup with her long-time fiancé Gilbert Arenas, who left their family hours after he was traded to the Orlando Magic, while she was carrying their fourth child. The Washington Post reports that she delivered their son Aloni three weeks ago.
With a new son and baby daddy drama, Laura has a lot to share on "Basketball Wives: LA." The single mom said she’s ready to invite the cameras into her life.
“I just wanted to showcase a new chapter in my life. A fresh start, a fresh outlook on life as a single mom," Laura told The Post. "I just showcase who I am. My needs, my wants, my frustrations.”
Among those frustrations would be her child support battle with Gilbert, who is trying to halt production of the show. VH1 doesn’t seem to be worried about the NBA player’s efforts to stop its planned spin-off, which has been taping for at least a month.
A "Basketball Wives" executive producer called Laura a "spark plug" who is going to show viewers some "really pretty powerful stuff." And signing on for the show with her sister Gloria Govan has only sweetened the pot for VH1. "The fact that they’re sisters is a great, great story for us."
Laura doesn’t seem to be concerned about Gilbert either, stating, "Whatever happens, happens."
