Mariah Carey joins ‘X-Factor’

Mariah Carey has teamed up with Simon Cowell for the U.S. debut of “The X Factor.”

Mariah was originally set to have a small part on the show, but according to Entertainment Weekly, she may now be a regular face for the season’s entirety.

Last April, “The X Factor” creator said 41-year-old mom would be a mentor to contestants for just a few episodes, but sources are saying she is looking into a more permanent gig.

“Mariah and Simon are great friends, and now [that] she has had her babies, it’s very possible that she will be involved [in] some way in the later stages of the show," the insider told EW. "She has always said she wanted to work with the show, so it’s something they will certainly be discussing ideas for soon."

The original U.K. version of the singing competition was created by Simon back in 2004. Ahen he decided to launch “The X Factor” in the U.S., Mariah Carey came to mind. Now, the former “American Idol” judge and Mariah are in talks about exactly what her role will be.

“She’ll be involved in some form,” Simon guarantees. “I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows. I met her recently and she was on great form. And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with.”

Catch Mariah on the U.S premiere season airing September 21.
