LaLa Vasquez and Carmelo Anthony are working hard to live up to the standard set by couples like Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
After one year as man and wife, LaLa told the New York Times that she and her hubby are striving to be like Black Hollywood’s top celebrity love birds. You know, where each partner has his or her own thing going on, but the two still manage to do incredible things together?
In pursuit of that goal, LaLa said she and Carmelo are trying to merge their worlds a la the Smiths. “I love Will Smith and Jada Pinkett!" LaLa gushed. "You see the love, and you can see the support, and they partner on things and produce together. But she has a life, and he has a life.”
But Will and Jada aren’t the only ones the Anthonys are looking up to. "Beyoncé have a tremendous relationship, Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, they’re a couple we see that inspires us," LaLa said before explaining that she and Carmelo aren’t trying to be carbon copies. Rather LaLa and Carmelo are using those examples as a good model for their own loving marriage. "We want to be ourselves. We want people to say, ‘We want our relationship to be like Melo and LaLa.’”
So far, LaLa and Carmelo are off to a good start. He’s got a thriving career in the NBA, and she’s hard at work with their production company prepping for "LaLa’s Full Court Life."
The VH1 series is a follow-up to "LaLa’s Full Court Wedding", which chronichled the couple’s preparation for their 2010 nuptials in New York City. "LaLa’s Full Court Life" will debut August 22 at 10 p.m. (EST).
