Fantasia Barrino has confirmed that she does indeed have a bun in the oven.
Fantasia took to the stage in Jacksonville, Florida, yesterday to perform for loyal fans in the area. During her set, she put an end to all the pregnancy rumors by referring to "this child that I carry."
Fans have been speculating for months that Fantasia is pregnant, but her camp initially held off suspicion by reporting that she was gaining weight to play Mahalia Jackson in a biopic. But during the Essence Music Festival in June, she showed up wearing a flowy, empire waist dress that was loose enough to hide a baby bump that paparazzi had snapped pics of just days before that performance.
"For a while, I walked around figuring, ‘What will they say? What will they think about me,’" Fantasia explained before stating that she’s no longer living according to other people’s opinions of her. "Now I tell you, I don’t live my life for folk."
Although she didn’t announce who the father of the baby is, the singer has come under scrutiny for carrying on a relationship with a married man named Antwaun Cook.
That criticism is likely what motivated her to keep the big news under wraps until now. "God has given me this child, and I don’t have to hide it from none of y’all," she stated before launching into a slow rendition of "Even Angels."
