Boris Kodjoe gave men on Twitter a few quick tips on how to get themselves together.
When former "Celebrity Apprentice" contestant Claudia Jordan tweeted that her mom advised her to find "some rich, ugly producer and marry him," Boris couldn’t respond fast enough.
“Why he gotta be ugly?" the actor asked. "Honestly, I think LA is cancerous for relationships." In his view, everyone in that city is so preoccupied with making a name for themselves that they just don’t make time to cultivate any real relationships.
"No one has time to take anyone in. Everyone is self-centered and wants to ‘keep it moving,’" Boris tweeted. "Dudes here are so insecure that they have to switch up a girl every week to hide their ‘weaknesses’. A real man embraces them!”
He used that tweet as a spring board for his trending topic, #How2baman. Boris dropped knowledge on dudes about how to man up. The actor’s first suggestion? "Embrace your imperfections," he advised. "Laugh at yourself. A woman likes a man who doesn’t take himself too serious."
According to Boris, being responsible is one of the first steps to being a grown man because "anything less is unacceptable. A boy is irresponsible, not a man."
Part of being a grown man also involves watching your mouth. Any man can talk loud, but Boris thinks a real man shows self-control in his speech. "Communicate without cursing," he stated, "You don’t need to curse to make a point. Cursing shows lack of substance."
And Boris thinks that it’s a good idea to show a woman that you know how to handle your business in the bedroom, too. "In bed, take care of your woman first. When she’s satisfied you are DA MAN!!!" he advised.
He added that doing a few other things around the house helps a lot as well. "Fix or build something with your hands. It’ll show her that you are capable of taking care of a home," Boris wrote before mentioning another way that a real man works with his hands. "Know how to cook and clean. It’ll show her that you don’t need her but that you WANT her."
Boris, who is considered gorgeous by many, said that real men also know how to take care of themselves because their bodies are their calling cards. Stay in shape," he said. "It’ll show her that you care about yourself and therefore are able to care about her."
And when a guy finally gets a woman, Boris offered a few pointers on how to treat her outside of the bedroom.
"Open her her door and pull out her chair. It shows her that you honor traditional values. Trust me, she will do the same," he suggests, adding that it’s an easy way to keep peace in the home when you also pay attention to your mate. "Be present! Take her in with your eyes and ears. Your attention will make her feel loved and she won’t ever nag you."
Most importantly, though, he told men that they need to be the type of men they’d want the women in their families to bring home. He tweeted, "Treat a woman the way you would want your daughter to be treated. Anything less is unacceptable.”
Take note, fellas. This is advice coming from the man who managed to put a ring on Nicole Ari Parker’s finger and stay happily married! He probably knows what he’s talking about.
