Jay-Z tops list of hip-hop earners

Jay-Z had earned his place on the throne by raking in more money than any other hip-hop artist last year.

When Forbes compiled its list of Hip-Hop’s Top 20 Earners, HOV came out on top with $37 million. Diddy came in second with $35 million in earnings while Kanye West rounded out the Top 3 with $16 million.

This fiscal year is getting off to a great start for Jay-Z and Kanye, who just dropped their highly anticipated collaboration, Watch the Throne. When the album dropped at midnight on Monday, music lovers all over the blogosphere collectively turned their ears to the duo and immediately flooded the web with reviews on the project. Some loved it; some were disappointed, but people all over the world were talking about it.

“Jay-Z and Kanye are hip-hop ambassadors,” Jay’s business partner Steve Stoute told Forbes. “They bring the art form around the world, and they’ve taken production and everything to the next level. Now they’ve got a chance to grow with their global audience.”

With just under three days on the chart, Hov and Yeezy have proven Steve’s projections right. According to iTunes, Watch the Throne has hit #1 in 23 different countries, including Japan, Belgium, Germany, Spain and (of course) the United States. The album also ranks #1 in Luxembourg, France, Mexico, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and Denmark among others.

While the world is still reeling from its first listen of Watch the Throne, which miraculously managed not to leak before its designated release, Kanye and Jay-Z are teasing the video for the album’s first single.  Check out the sneak peek of "Otis" below before it debuts tomorrow on MTV, BET and Centric at 8:56 p.m. (EST).
