Michael Vick signs $100-million deal

Michael Vick has just inked a deal that has made him one of the highest paid players in the NFL.

The once-embattled NFL player has just signed a six-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles worth $100 million, ESPN.com reports. About $40 million of the sum is guaranteed money.

The value of the contract comes out to just over $16 million per year, if he earns the full sum. Still, the total is around what he was expected to make this season as the Eagles’ franchise player anyway.

This is great news, not just for Michael and his family, but also for his creditors. The Eagles quarterback reportedly still owes $19 million in his bankruptcy case, and Michael has an excellent shot at paying off the debt in full. However, if he only makes the $40 million, the creditors may not recoup the full amount.

Michael has certainly worked hard to garner such a contract as he led the team to set a new record of 8-3 during his debut season.  That’s after joining the Eagles as a third-string QB under Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb in 2009.

Eagles coach Andy Reid agrees. "I’m very happy we were able to reach an agreement with Michael on this long-term contract," he said in a statement. "It’s a product of all the hard work Michael has done to better himself over the last couple of years, both on and off the field."
