R&B crooner Kem surprised fans at a concert in Baltimore last weekend by encouraging one couple to jump the broom!
Following in the footsteps of those who have produced classic sounds—by signing with Motown—R&B singer/songwriter Kem has always been one to make his audience swoon over his lyrics of love. At a concert on Saturday, however, he handed over his reigns.
At the Pier Six Concert Pavillion, in Baltimore, Maryland, an unexpected performance from Shirley Murdock was not the only surprise fans received that night. Pausing to mention growth in relationships, midway through his performance of Intimacy’s hit “Share My Life”, he encouraged a couple in the audience to “take that next step”.
In the front row was a well-dressed man standing proudly, helping his woman to her feet. On one knee, he proposed in front of Kem, and the entire audience. Following her acceptance, Kem made a commitment as well. “I’ve only ever done this once in my life, but once you all set a date, I’d gladly sing at your wedding…for $350,000," Kem said before bursting into laughter about the price. "I’m just kidding about that, but really, I’d love to sing at your wedding. Let’s talk after the show."
A few songs later, while belting out “Find Your Way (Back In My Life)”, Kem extended his mic to the future groom. To his surprise, the man had a way with the song—at which point Kem made his way to the floor, allowing more time for the fan to serenade his new fiancé.
While the icing on the cake, may have very well been Kelly Price and Shirley Murdock singing “As We Lay”, what woman wouldn’t want that proposal?
